Faculty Services
The Library supports the educational mission of North Georgia College & State University by providing resources, services, and facilities. The Library’s collections of books, journals, media, and electronic resources when combined with resource sharing through interlibrary loan and GIL Express, supports, extends, and enriches the curriculum and promotes life-long learning. Equally important is the mission to cultivate library and information literacy skills necessary to informed leadership and life-long learning.
We hope you will find this quick guide to library services useful and welcome suggestions for how it might be improved. Send suggestions to
refdesk@ngcsu.edu.
Circulation
Your university ID is your library card, please present it when borrowing materials.
Most books circulate for 140 days and can be renewed. Some materials, such as GIL Express items, reserves, and media circulate for a shorter time period; go to the
Borrowing page to see loan periods. All material is subject to recall if needed by someone else. Like other borrowers, faculty members are billed for replacement cost and a handling fee if materials are lost or not returned.
Non-circulating materials such as periodicals and reference books may occasionally be loaned for special needs such as class presentation. Please inquire at the Reference Desk or at
refdesk@ngcsu.edu.
Collection Development
The Library welcomes and encourages book, media, journal, and database suggestions from faculty.
Library faculty liaisons regularly distribute academic book reviews published in Choice to schools and departments; please contact your
liaison librarian if you wish to receive copies of these reviews. For more information about recommending materials, go the
Collection Development page.
Working within the budget, every effort is made to acquire the materials you recommend and that meet the criteria outlined in the
Collection Development Policy.
Your liaison can also assist you with periodic collection assessments. Please allow advance notice for a collection assessment as these take considerable time to complete.
Library Instruction & Information Literacy
Liaison librarians are available to help you teach information literacy skills. Go to the
Library Instruction and Information Literacy page for more information.
Reserves
The reserves collection is provided to ensure that materials assigned for a class will be accessible to all students who need them. Books and other items are placed on reserve for a specific course at the request of a faculty member. To ensure timely service for your students, please submit reserve requests at least 4 days in advance of when needed. In addition to library materials, personal copies of books may be placed on reserve. Commercially rented items and interlibrary loan books cannot be placed on reserve. Photocopied articles on reserve must meet copyright guidelines. All materials are removed from reserve at the end of each semester. For more information, contact the Circulation department manager at 706-864-1889.
